# Innovation decisions

## Why this feature is needed

Innovation work is not only about exploring ideas, assumptions, and risks. It also requires teams to make clear decisions along the way. Without a structured way to capture those decisions, important context can be lost and it becomes harder to understand why a certain direction was chosen.

Innovation decisions help teams document the choices made during discovery, innovation sprints, pilots, and projects. This improves alignment, accountability, and traceability throughout the innovation process.

## What this feature is

Innovation decisions in [Accept Mission](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/accept-mission/) are part of the broader innovation intelligence feature and help teams register the decisions made throughout the lifecycle of an idea or project.

This feature can be used for both ideas and projects. It allows teams to build a clear [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) history over time, including decisions made by the project team, business owners, or other stakeholders. This makes it easier to keep track of what was decided, who decided it, and how the innovation moved forward.

Innovation decisions also work together with other innovation intelligence tools such as canvases, assumptions, risks, and problems, so the final choices can stay connected to the analysis behind them.

## Access level

[Power User](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/power-user/)

You need access to the relevant idea or project in the Innovation Studio to work with innovation decisions.

## Navigation path

Navigation path: Innovation Studio → Ideas → Open funnel → Open idea → Work → Decisions

## How to use this feature

Innovation decisions are used inside ideas and projects to keep a structured record of the key choices made during the innovation process. Teams can use this to document what was approved, selected, changed, paused, or prioritized.

This makes it easier to connect exploration with action. Instead of only discussing options, the team can clearly record the [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) that was made and keep that visible for later review.

### Step by step instructions

1. Open **Innovation Studio**.
2. Choose whether you want to work inside an **idea** or a **project**.
3. Open the relevant idea or project.
4. Open the **Decisions** tab.
5. Add a new [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/).
6. Enter the [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) title.
7. Add more detail if needed, such as the context or outcome of the [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/).
8. Save the [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/).
9. Repeat this for important decisions made during the innovation process.
10. Use connected items where relevant to link the [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) to other innovation intelligence elements.

## What you can do with innovation decisions

Within the Decisions tab, teams can:

- **Register decisions** made during the innovation process
- **Keep a [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) history** over time
- **Capture decisions** made by the project team or business owners
- **Improve accountability** by making important choices visible
- **Create more structure** in how innovation moves from analysis to action

This helps teams document not only what was explored, but also what was actually decided.

## Examples of decisions

Typical examples of decisions that can be registered include:

- **The [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) on which [Problem](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/problem/) is the primary [Problem](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/problem/)**
- **The [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) on which [Solution](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/solution/) direction will be pursued**
- **The [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) to move forward with a certain concept**
- **The [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) to stop, pause, or redirect an innovation**
- **The [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) to approve the next phase of work**

This creates a stronger link between analysis and execution.

## Connecting decisions to the innovation process

The Decisions feature works together with the other parts of innovation intelligence.

For example, a team may use a canvas to structure a [Problem](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/problem/) analysis, register assumptions, capture related risks, and then record the final [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) that was made based on that work. This helps turn research and discussion into a clear and traceable outcome.

## Connected items

A key strength of innovation intelligence is that items can be connected to each other. This also applies to decisions.

Decisions can be linked with other innovation intelligence items so teams can bind everything together in one structured overview. This makes it easier to:

- **Navigate between related items**
- **Understand the reasoning behind a [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/)**
- **Keep the innovation story connected**
- **Create a stronger overview of the full process**

This connected structure improves traceability and makes the methodology more practical in day to day use.

**Description:** A [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) item linked to related innovation intelligence elements such as a canvas, [Assumption](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/assumption/), [Risk](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/risk/), or [Problem](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/problem/), showing how items can be connected for better traceability.

## Why this matters

By registering decisions, teams avoid losing important context. This is especially useful when multiple people are involved, the innovation runs over a longer period, or decisions are made at different levels in the organization.

A proper [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) log supports stronger governance, clearer communication, and more disciplined innovation management.

## Innovation intelligence feature page

Innovation decisions are one of the tools within the broader [Innovation intelligence](http://www.acceptmission.com/support/innovation-intelligence/) feature. This broader feature helps teams capture structure, insights, decisions, and learning directly inside ideas and projects.

## Configuration and adjustments

Innovation decisions are available in both ideas and projects, which means the same structured [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) approach can be used during exploration and during execution.

To work with this feature in ideas, follow this path:

**Navigation path: Innovation Studio → Ideas → Open funnel → Open idea → Work → Decisions**

To work with this feature in projects, follow this path:

**Navigation path: Innovation Studio → Projects → Open project → Work → Decisions**

To keep this feature useful, teams should register key decisions consistently and connect them to the related assumptions, risks, problems, or canvases where relevant. This creates a stronger audit trail of how the innovation evolved.

## Practical example – Innovationlands

Innovationlands is working on a new guest experience concept that starts as an idea and later becomes a project. During discovery, the team explores several possible guest problems, captures assumptions about visitor behavior, and identifies risks related to adoption and operational feasibility.

After reviewing the evidence, the business owner decides which [Problem](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/problem/) should be treated as the main one and the team records that choice in the **Decisions** tab. Later, after testing different [Solution](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/solution/) directions, the team records a second [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) that confirms which concept will move forward into execution.

Because these decisions are connected to the related canvases, assumptions, and risks, Innovationlands can always see not only what was decided, but also why that [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/ar/encyclopedia/decision/) was made. This helps the team maintain clear direction and stronger traceability throughout the innovation process.
