# Custom innovation roles

## Why this feature is needed

Ideas, projects, and campaigns often involve multiple people with different responsibilities. Without clear role assignments, it becomes harder to understand who owns progress, who provides expertise, and who is responsible for review or follow-up.

Custom innovation roles help teams define responsibilities clearly inside the platform. This improves accountability, reduces confusion, and supports better collaboration during idea development, project execution, and campaign management.

## What this feature is

Custom innovation roles are configurable team member roles that can be assigned to users inside individual ideas and projects. These roles describe what a person is responsible for within that specific record.

Examples include roles such as Innovation project owner, Campaign team member, Topic expert, Jury, Business owner, Sponsor, Innovation advisor, Team member, Collaborator, Stakeholder, Enricher, and Scorer.

A user can have one or multiple innovation roles, and the assigned roles can differ between ideas and projects. These roles are managed centrally in settings and then used in operational work across the platform.

## Access level

## How to use this feature

Innovation roles are first configured at company level in settings. After that, they can be assigned to users in the team member section of ideas and projects.

## Assign roles in ideas and projects

After innovation roles have been configured, they can be assigned directly in idea and project records.

1. Open an **idea** or **project** in the Innovation Studio.
2. Go to the **Team members** section.
3. Select a user.
4. Choose one or more innovation roles for that user.
5. Save the changes.

The assigned roles are visible to the team so responsibilities remain clear during execution and review.

## Examples of innovation roles

### Operational and ownership roles

### Review and expertise roles

Examples include Topic expert, Jury, Enricher, and Scorer. These roles support idea quality, evaluation, and structured campaign follow-up.

### Business and governance roles

## Configuration and adjustments

Innovation roles are managed in **Innovation Studio → Settings → People and access **→** Innovation roles**. Any role created here becomes available for assignment in ideas and projects.

When deleting a role, keep in mind that it will also be removed from any ideas or projects where it is currently assigned. Review this carefully before removing roles that are already in active use.

For the best results, keep role names short, clear, and consistent across the platform. This improves clarity in campaigns, idea follow-up, and project collaboration.

## Practical example – Innovationlands

Innovationlands runs a campaign to improve guest flow and attraction capacity planning. The innovation team wants to make responsibilities clear across idea review and project follow-up.

The [Admin](https://www.acceptmission.com/de/encyclopedia/admin/) creates several custom innovation roles, including **Campaign team member**, **Topic expert**, **Business owner**, **Enricher**, and **Scorer**. In the idea detail view, the campaign lead is assigned as Campaign team member, a park operations specialist is assigned as Topic expert, and a guest experience manager is assigned as Business owner.

When one idea is approved and becomes a project, the team assigns a new **Innovation project owner** and keeps the Business owner connected to the project. This gives Innovationlands a clear structure for responsibility, review, and collaboration from campaign input through execution.
