# Change the funnel item type

## Why this feature is needed

Funnels do not always need to collect ideas. In some cases, a funnel is used to collect problems, risks, challenges, goals, or other types of input instead.

Changing the funnel item type helps align the workflow with the purpose of the process. It also updates the labels in the application so users clearly understand what kind of input they are expected to submit and manage.

## What this feature is

The funnel item type is a funnel setting that defines what kind of items are collected and managed in that funnel. While idea funnels often collect ideas, the item type can be adjusted to reflect other formats such as problems, risks, challenges, or goals.

When the item type is changed, new items added to the funnel will follow the selected type. The application labels are also updated so the terminology shown in the workflow matches the selected input type.

This helps organizations use funnels for different innovation purposes without changing the underlying process structure.

## How to use this feature

The funnel input type should match the kind of input you want to collect and manage. For example, if a funnel is used to collect operational problems instead of solutions, updating the input type makes the process clearer for everyone involved.

After the setting is changed, all new items added to the funnel will align with the selected type and the application labels will reflect that choice.

### Step by step instructions

1. Open **Innovation Studio**.
2. Go to **Settings**.
3. Select **Funnel overview**.
4. Open the funnel you want to update.
5. Click **Edit funnel**.
6. Find the **funnel item type** setting.
7. Select the input type you want to use, such as ideas, problems, risks, challenges, or goals.
8. Save the changes.
9. Review the funnel to confirm that the labels now match the selected input type.

## Configuration and adjustments

The funnel itemtype is configured in the funnel details settings. This affects how new items in the funnel are categorized and how the application presents labels to users.

Choose an item type that matches the real purpose of the workflow. This improves the quality of submissions because users can immediately understand whether the funnel is meant for ideas, issues, risks, or strategic goals.

If the funnel already contains existing items, review the impact of terminology changes carefully before updating the setting. New items will follow the selected type, so the workflow and communication around the funnel should stay aligned.

## Practical example – Innovationlands

Innovationlands uses a funnel to gather operational issues from park teams during the busy summer season. The goal is not to collect solutions first, but to identify the most important guest experience problems that need attention.

The [Admin](https://www.acceptmission.com/encyclopedia/admin/) opens the funnel configuration, edits the funnel, goes to the **General**tab, and changes the **funnel input type** from **Ideas** to **Problems**. After saving the update, the labels in the application now reflect that users should submit problems instead of ideas.

This helps Innovationlands collect more focused input from park staff, which can later be reviewed, grouped, and turned into improvement initiatives or [Solution](https://www.acceptmission.com/encyclopedia/solution/)-focused idea campaigns.
