# How to manage the context tab in funnel management

The **Context** tab in funnel management helps define the guidance and boundaries for a funnel. It gives users a clearer understanding of what kind of ideas or items belong in the funnel and helps AI-supported tools generate more accurate support throughout the process.

## Why this feature is needed

When users submit or work on ideas, they often need more than a title and description. They also need direction about what the funnel is trying to achieve, what is in scope, what should be excluded, and what success looks like.

The **Context** tab provides that structure. It helps improve the quality and relevance of submissions, keeps the funnel aligned with its purpose, and supports more consistent evaluation and [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/decision/)-making.

## What this feature is

The **Context** tab is part of funnel management in Application Settings. It allows admins to define contextual fields that explain the purpose and boundaries of a funnel.

Based on the interface shown, the tab includes the following context fields:

- **Goals**
- **In scope**
- **Out of scope**
- **Constraints**
- **Target audience**
- **Success criteria**

Each field can contain multiple entries. These entries help participants understand what is expected and support AI features that use funnel context to provide more accurate guidance.

## Access level

[Admin](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/admin/)

Prerequisites:

- The user must have [Admin](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/admin/) access to Application Settings.
- The funnel must already exist.
- The user must have permission to edit funnel configuration.

## Navigation path

Navigation path: Application Settings → Funnel configuration → Open funnel → Context

## How to use this feature

The **Context** tab is used to define the intent and boundaries of a funnel. Instead of configuring layout or scoring, this tab focuses on explaining what the funnel is for and what kind of input it should contain.

Each context field accepts multiple short entries. Admins can add, review, and remove entries to shape how the funnel is presented to users and how AI tools interpret the funnel purpose.

## Step by step instructions

1. Open **Application Settings**.
2. Go to **Funnel configuration**.
3. Open the funnel you want to edit.
4. Click the **Context** tab.
5. Review the existing values in each context field.
6. Add entries to **Goals** to describe what the funnel should achieve.
7. Add entries to **In scope** to define what belongs in the funnel.
8. Add entries to **Out of scope** to clarify what should be excluded.
9. Add entries to **Constraints** to describe required limits or conditions.
10. Add entries to **Target audience** to indicate who the funnel is intended for.
11. Add entries to **Success criteria** to define what a strong outcome looks like.
12. Save the funnel configuration.

## What you can configure in the context tab

### Goals

The **Goals** field defines what the funnel is intended to achieve. This helps users understand the overall purpose of the funnel before they submit or review items.

In the example shown, the goals describe collecting and evaluating new theme park attraction ideas, aligning ideas with company strategy and promise, presenting proposals to the innovation board, and generating inspiring and innovative concepts.

### In scope

The **In scope** field explains which types of ideas or items belong in the funnel. This reduces ambiguity and helps keep submissions relevant.

Examples shown include new theme park attraction ideas and ideas aligned with company strategy.

### Out of scope

The **Out of scope** field makes it clear which submissions do not belong in the funnel. This helps avoid noise and reduces time spent reviewing irrelevant ideas.

Examples shown include non-theme park related ideas and ideas that do not fit the company promise.

### Constraints

The **Constraints** field defines limits or conditions that ideas should respect. This can include strategic, operational, or thematic restrictions.

In the example shown, ideas must align with company strategy and must be innovative and inspiring.

### Target audience

The **Target audience** field identifies the groups the funnel is intended for or the stakeholders most relevant to the content. This can help set expectations about who should participate or who the ideas are designed to support.

In the example shown, the target audience includes the attractions team and the innovation board.

### Success criteria

The **Success criteria** field defines what success looks like for ideas in the funnel. This helps participants and reviewers understand how strong submissions will be recognized.

Examples shown include ideas fitting company strategy, ideas being inspiring and innovative, and proposals being accepted by the innovation board.

## AI support in the context tab

The interface includes a help panel that explains the role of context in the funnel. It states that clear context helps participants understand what is expected and allows AI tools to give more accurate support throughout the process.

The screen also includes a **Generate Context with AI** button. This indicates that AI can assist in creating or refining the context for the funnel.

Admins can use this support to draft clearer context, especially when setting up a new funnel or updating an existing one.

## Configuration and adjustments

The **Context** tab should be reviewed whenever a funnel is created, repurposed, or updated for a new challenge or [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/decision/) process. Clear context makes funnels easier to understand and improves the quality of submissions and evaluations.

When adjusting the context setup, consider the following:

- Keep entries short and specific.
- Make sure in-scope and out-of-scope definitions do not overlap.
- Use constraints only for rules that really matter.
- Define success criteria that reviewers can actually use in [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/decision/)-making.
- Review the context when strategy, audience, or funnel goals change.

Because this information shapes how users and AI interpret the funnel, the context should be practical, clear, and aligned with the purpose of the workflow.

## Practical example - Innovationlands

Innovationlands creates a funnel to collect proposals for new attraction concepts across its theme park organization. In the **Context** tab, the [Admin](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/admin/) team adds goals such as collecting and evaluating new attraction ideas, aligning ideas with strategy, and preparing proposals for the innovation board.

They define **In scope** as new theme park attraction ideas and ideas aligned with company strategy. They define **Out of scope** as unrelated ideas and concepts that do not fit the company promise. They also add constraints that ideas must align with strategy and must be innovative and inspiring.

To guide evaluation, Innovationlands sets the **Target audience** to the attractions team and innovation board, and defines **Success criteria** such as strategic fit, originality, and board acceptance.

This helps contributors understand what kind of proposals belong in the funnel and supports more consistent filtering, scoring, and [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/decision/)-making before ideas move toward project transition.
