# Level star and XP points

## Why this feature is needed

The level star and XP points help users understand their activity level in the Innovation Portal. This gives contributors visible feedback when they participate in innovation activities such as submitting ideas, commenting, scoring, and joining missions.

This feature is useful when you want to see how active you are on the platform and how your participation contributes to your personal level.

## What this feature is

The level star shows your current level, and the XP counter shows how many experience points you have earned. XP stands for experience points. In [Accept Mission](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/accept-mission/), XP points increase when you actively participate in innovation activities.

This feature is part of the Innovation Portal experience. It supports participation and engagement by making your activity visible in the portal header.

## Access level

You must be logged in to the Innovation Portal to view your level star and XP points.

## How to use this feature

Your current level and XP points are displayed in the top header of the Innovation Portal. The star icon shows your level, and the number next to it shows your total XP points.

As you participate more in the platform, your XP increases. When your XP reaches the required threshold, your level increases as well.

### Step by step instructions

1. Open the Innovation Portal.
2. Look at the top header of the page.
3. Find the star icon to view your current level.
4. Check the number next to the star to view your current XP points.
5. Participate in portal activities to increase your XP and level over time.

## How XP points increase

You can increase your XP score by being active in the platform. Common activities include:

- Adding ideas
- Liking ideas
- Commenting on ideas
- Scoring ideas
- Participating in missions
- Updating your profile
- Following topics you are interested in
- Favoriting ideas
- Creating missions
- Joining ideas or projects as a team member

The exact XP growth is tied to platform activity. In general, broader and more consistent participation leads to a higher XP total and a higher level.

## Practical example – Innovationlands

At Innovationlands, an employee in Innovationlands World submits an idea to improve visitor flow near a major attraction. After submitting the idea, the employee comments on related ideas, scores ideas in an active [Mission](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/mission/), and follows topics linked to guest experience.

As these activities are completed in the Innovation Portal, the employee's XP total increases. Over time, the employee reaches a higher level, which reflects ongoing participation in the innovation process. This helps Innovationlands encourage regular contribution across missions and idea activity before ideas move into structured review and [Decision](https://www.acceptmission.com/nl/encyclopedia/decision/)-making.
